The wild food experience takes you on a journey of traditional skills and explorations in the Scottish Highlands.
On this expedition you will be immersed in the wild landscape of the Scottish highlands, walking the less trodden trails in the pursuit of hunting a deer or wild boar.
This is not about trophy hunting it is about experiencing the land in a unique way, taking on the most outright respect for the animals and all the living organisms that exist and thrive in this challenging environment. This experience is often involves big days out in the hills being challenged by the elements and therefore encouraged to switch on to the obvious or subtle signs that the animals leave behind.
I guide this experience all your round. The time of year will determine what is in season to hunt and if successful you will have the challenge of getting your kill off the hill by dragging or backpacking it out. Once back you will learn skills like butchery, curing and preservation techniques. You will also learn about how our ancestors used every part of the animal like its skin for leather, hooves for oil, antlers for tools and weapons, bones for broth and containers and vital organs for haggis. A lot of this is considered waste nowadays but was hugely valuable in the past and makes you honour the animal by allowing it the live on.
This experience is tailored to the individual or group and the location that I take you to will depend on your location interest through further discussion. A decent level of fitness is required for the experience.
